In this Monday column, Christy Murdock Edgar asks agents across the nation to share the lessons they’ve learned during their time in the industry.

With more than 200 sales a year, South Florida real estate broker Paul Saperstein knows a thing or two about sales.

His reputation in glamorous Palm Beach and Broward Counties has given him a role as an industry leader, but his experiences in the real estate industry have taught him that there is no shortcut to success in any real estate market. The only “secret” is stellar service.

How long have you been in the business?

I have been in business since 1998, so more than 20 years. I graduated college in 1998 and called a job ad in the classified section of the local newspaper.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself as the number No. 1 eXp Realty agent in the state of Florida in five years, selling over 365 homes per year. I’d love to create a team that would allow me to start mentoring newer agents on how to be successful in the ever-changing real estate profession.

What’s one big lesson you’ve learned in real estate?

The most important lesson I have learned in real estate is that real estate is not a sales job. Realtors are in the customer service industry.

How did you learn it?

I learned this lesson during a transaction where the sales price I got for one of my seller clients was much lower than expected.

The client left me an amazing review and told me they wouldn’t remember the sales price or how long it took to sell. They would only remember the experience they had with me as their Realtor.

What advice would you give to new agents?

My advice to new agents is to be yourself, find your niche, and be consistent!
